About Us
Founding of the Tenants’ Association
In 2018, three members withdrew themselves from the Residents’ committee with a request for others to take their place. At the end of a series of general resident meetings, it was decided to expand the new committee to six members. During those meetings, strategies to improve the position of the residents of the mills of Kinderdijk were also discussed.
Following the recommendations given by several advisors and after consulting all windmill residents, an association was established in 2020: De Vereenigde Molenbewoners van KinderdijK.

Residents’ committee
In 2002, the Residents’ Committee was brought to life. This became necessary after the management and ownership of the windmills fell into the hands of the new Foundation of World Heritage Kinderdijk. It seemed like the interests of the tenants were otherwise going to be overlooked.
During the first years, the Residents’ Committee consisted of the members Ad Mol (Eighth Overwaard), Jaap De Vries (Fifth Overwaard), Cock Van den Bergh (Third Nederwaard), and Arie Hoek (Fifth Nederwaard). Arie made place for Gert-Jan Rozendaal (Seventh Nederwaard) in 2012.
As an initiative of the Residents’ Committee, the Residents covenant was drawn up in 2017. In this covenant, the involved parties made agreements to improve their mutual relationships. The covenant was signed by Waterschap Rivierenland, the Foundation of World Heritage Kinderdijk, the Municipality of Molenwaard, and all windmill residents.
Our Logo
The silhouette of Kinderdijk with a capstan wheel with sixteen spokes within.
This symbolizes the sixteen windmill residents that together turn their mills towards the wind.
The logo has an oval shape, the shape of the stock emblem of Pot, the famous mill stock of Kinderdijk.
“Parties state that in the event of new developments and when making plans in the area, they will keep each other involved at an early stage, in a way in which a mutual understanding and a better relationship will be established.”
