Vereenigde Molenbewoners
KinderdijK
Official tenants’ association by the residents of the windmills of World Heritage Kinderdijk
Inhabited Mills
The windmills of Kinderdijk were built as tools to move water. They act as wind-powered water pumps. The millers that operated the windmills always used to live at their workplace, as the mills functioned as service accommodation.
Even in the present day, millers and their families live in the mills, with a lot of passion and love for our windmills and the area. They live and work where our ancestors have lived and worked, and where the generations to come will also live and work. Millers and their families are connected inseparably to the heritage site.
Tenants’ association
De Vereenigde Molenbewoners KinderdijK (The United Mill Residents of Kinderdijk)
stands up for the interests of the occupants of the mills
and the environment they live in.
“The windmills being lived in is a significant part of the heritage value and authenticity of World Heritage Kinderdijk.”
